Back in June 2005, before I rejoined the CCGLA board, I developed a personal goals/vision statement that I made available for the annual meeting, and which I then shared with other board members after I was elected back to the board. My CCGLA Vision statement provided an overview of what I wanted to work towards in the two years that I was committing to CCGLA. It was also circulated to Dawnetta Miller, Dell Mott, Mike Agan and Ken Stowe in an effort to solicit their support for my nomination as president.
In the short time that I was on the board in 2005, I was successful in getting a number of these goals on the agenda for discussion, and in some cases adopted by the CCGLA Board. These included:
- Establish Board Advisory Committee comprising of community representatives (this was adopted, but no action was taken by the assigned person)
- Seek to focus committee on the current issues facing GLBT Texans, and to develop stronger partnerships with other organizations
A review of the CCGLA Board meeting agendas between June and November 2005 would show I was working towards enhancing CCGLA’s focus on the organization’s mission and goals.
Alas, my new ideas and pursuit to encourage others on the board to support these were not overly effective. While many of the resolutions I proposed were supported through votes, the action taken (or not taken) to implement these highlighted the actual lack of support these had amongst the board.
