Disclosing Grassroots Lobbying

Posted on March 16, 2006May 21, 2006 by James

Just catching up on political movements in teh House and Senate, and found out about Senate Bill 2128 (A bill to provide greater transparency with respect to lobbying activities, and for other purposes). This bill – introduced by Senator John McCain – would require grassroots lobbying expenditures in excess of $25,000 to be disclosed.  I wonder… Continue reading

O'Connor's warning

Posted on March 10, 2006May 21, 2006 by James

This morning I was listening to NPR (as you do), and heard a story about a speech given by former Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor yesterday. In it, she takes aim at the many attacks that have been occuring towards the judiciary over recent years. Specifically she is concerned about the focus of possible… Continue reading

Harris & Self face run-off

Posted on March 8, 2006May 21, 2006 by James

While it would have been nice for Ron Harris to have won the first round, it appears that there will be a run-off for our County Judge position in April.  Worthy of noting is that Rick Neudorff is not one of the people who will be in that race (a significant stumble within this county from… Continue reading

Damn it, eh?

This is a fantastic tool!  Visit and type in your zip code and you will get an analysis of political contributions for the 2004 presidential election – including a Google Map of where those contributions are located in that zip code (not to mention the names and addresses, and phone numbers of the contributors). What… Continue reading

Go West … no, really … GO!

Posted on December 7, 2005 by James

It appears that the voters in Spokane, WA finally got rid of their mayor, Jim West, after a recall election ousted him yesterday. Sixty-five percent voted “yes” to remove West from office. (Source: Seattle Times)

Gavin Newsom – The Perfect Ally

Posted on December 2, 2005 by James

I remember recently seeing a special on one of those “high-channel” shows (a feed from UC Berkley or something), which featured San Francisco Mayor, Gavin Newsom. I was amazed with the passion that this man had for all things being equal, a strong belief he held.  I am now a much stronger admirer of this… Continue reading
