I'm just getting to read the Senate Journal relating to the debate on HJR6. I applaud many of the Senate Democrats for attempting to make the resolution more fair, and wanted to highlight two Senators for attempting to strengthen the institution of marriage even more by offering the following amendments (which were either tabled or withdrawn):
Senator Hinojosa offered the following amendment to the resolution:
Floor Amendment No. 7
Amend HJR 6 (Senate committee printing) as follows:
(1) In SECTION 1 of the resolution, at the end of added Section 32, Article I, Texas Constitution (page 1, between lines 16 and 17), insert the following:
(c) This state may not recognize a marriage if either party to the marriage has previously been married three or more times in this state or in another jurisdiction.Senator VanideiPutte offered the following amendment to the resolution:
Floor Amendment No. 8
Amend HJR 6 (Senate committee printing) as follows:
(1) In SECTION 1 of the resolution, at the end of added Section 32, Article I, Texas Constitution (page 1, between lines 16 and 17), insert the following:
(c) A union in this state, of one man and one woman, must include some sexual intercourse.
A noble effort, and if the debate wasn't over the hatred and discrimination towards gays, I'm sure they would have been adopted.
