The New York Times recently had an article on the supposed division between the national organizations on the issue of same-sex marriage. One quote from the article says

Some gay rights activists, including the leadership of the Human Rights Campaign, said they believed that aggressively pursuing same-sex marriage only played into the hand of Republicans and religious conservatives, who skillfully used the issue this fall to energize their voters.

For some time I've believed this to be true, and I'm personally pleased with HRC's decision to actually work differently towards reaching a goal of equality for the LGBT community.  The “kicking heads” radical-style of advocacy is long gone, and shouldn't make a come-back, especially on this issue.
