Tonight at dinner, a friend hit their dog really hard a number of times, and not in the way it’s meant to be done. The dog was trembling with fear (it seemed) at one point. I had to turn away. It reminded me of how abusive parents can be, and you really have very little to say or do to prevent it. People don’t deserve children sometimes.
