Who's the Ho in Frisco?

December 4th, 2005 § 0 comments § permalink

Well the first Saturday in December in Frisco normally means Merry Main Street, the city's response to the ongoing need to do something to celebrate the variety of holidays (read Christmas) that occur around this time of year. This year was pleasantly different from previous years that Chris and I have attended, in that it was warm (or warmish). In years gone by, we have frozen ourselves while we huddled with friends as we quickly strolled along Main Street, or for one year – around the ballpark. But this year was different, although as the evening drew on, we were reminded that the winter season may be closer than we'd like.

The actual event was nice, although I don't recall it being such a church(ey) event – although, I guess we do have so many of those property-tax-free establishments in the city right now, so it should be expected. From a sociological point of view, it was interesting to see that there appeared to be a correlation between the increase in churches at the event, and the lower level of fun or excitement that seemed to be emaninating through the crowd. It was not like previous years, and that is a sad thing.

Chris did bid on some art at the Visual Arts Guild of Frisco, which I didn't even know we had. A place to return to when a Merry Main Street is not happening.

After, we dropped by to Bobby and Ian's house for make your own pizza (scrum-diddly-umptious), and to admire their cat Nigel hiding under their new twelve-foot Christmas Tree. We also watched All The Rage on DVD (something I got from Netflix), and while it was visually enjoyable (most of the time), the story was somewhat missing – or maybe I just kept my focus on the important things (like nipples and navels).  (It's comforting to know that the first “review” you see on IMDB is “how did this get distributed?” Insightful.

Target in target

Eeeks… spend time working on other things, or relaxing in the country and you miss out on things.

Thanks to kelrick [LJ user], I found out about the devastating boycott of Target stores by the American Family Association.  The reason?  Target, has joined other stores, like Walmart to reduce the “Merry Christmas” message within their stores, in consideration of the variety of religious traditions that exist in the United States.  According to the AFA, Target will also prevent the Salvation Army from collecting donations outside of their stores.  The AFA is asking people to sign a petition that will ”also be sent to other major chains banning the use of 'Merry Christmas' including Costco, BJ's, Wal-Mart, Sears/K-Mart and Kohl's.”  Um, so my question is, why are they not calling on a ban to all these other stores? Hypocritical?  I think so.

CCGLA Update

November 30th, 2005 § 0 comments § permalink

One of the major focuses that I have spent a great deal of time on lately has been my legal action against CCGLA.  It was nice to get away for the Thanksgiving break, and not spend any time on that issue (instead focusing my energies on my family and my studies).  Last week, after I filed my lawsuit against CCGLA, I issued a media statement to the press, a number of my friends and contacts that I knew had some affiliation with CCGLA.  After doing this, I got a lot of supportive comments, and a number of questions on “what is going on” or “why is this happening”?  Today, I posted an outline of my reasons for this action, and try to explain why taking this action is important to me.

Tomorrow (December 1), the CCGLA Board will be meeting to consider my expulsion from the organization.

Go Fug Yourself is a talented couple of women who have far too much time on their hands, and seek out incredibly unflattering pictures of people to comment on.  It seems that one of the recent commentaries featured Ms. Courtney Act.  Read their comments here.  Personally, I think she looks incredibly amazing, for a guy :-)

I've changed the name of my blog (again).  I've had “My Life to a Point” for a little while now, but after revisiting Rent recently, I liked the idea of calling my blog “No Day But Today” which generally reflects how I feel about most things.  Living in the past, or waiting for the future, only makes you miss what is happening today.
