New WB Show

Was just reading about a new show, The Bedford Diaries, premiering on Wednesday evening on the “WB.”  The “controversy” over this show, is the censoring of a scene of two girls kissing (for about a second), and a second scene where a girl is unbuttoning her jeans.  Interestingly, the WB are making the entire show, including the censored scenes, available online.  Sadly, I think this is just a ploy to generate more interest in the show, which doesn’t say much for the show.

Watching CNN this morning.

Over 110 tornadoes hit various parts of the US over the weekend. 110! (Story)

It appears that there is a report that Ambien (a popular sleeping aid) may be contributing to weight gain … through sleep-eating.

Sleep researchers have reported an unusual number of incidents of sleepwalking in people taking Ambien, the top-selling sleep aid in theU.S. The Food and Drug Administration has received similar reports. Some incidents involve eating or driving while asleep; some have led to criminal charges. No conclusive link between the drug and the incidentshas been established. (Story)

The AFA have issued a boycott against Ford … again. (Story)

Women are getting organized in warning others (women) about cheating men.  What is amusing is that the men who are listed on this site have banded together to put together a class action law suit.

This is kind of sad. “Miss Deaf Texas struck by train, killed” (Story)

Bible Quotes

March 11th, 2006 § 0 comments § permalink

I've had the first part of this on my website as one of the rotating quotes, but thought I would post it here along with the “other” sins.  Quite a nice reminder.

“The Bible contains six admonishments to homosexuals, and 362 to heterosexuals. This doesn't mean God doesn't love heterosexuals, it's just that they need more supervision.” ~ Lynn Lavner, a lesbian comic

“Note the other sins punishable by death in the old testament: · not being Jewish (Deuteronomy 17:2) · sex before marriage (Deuteronomy 22:13) · refusal to obey your parents (Deuteronomy 21:18) · gathering firewood on Sunday (Numbers 15:32) · eating lobster (Leviticus 11:9)”

Sickness and guilt

January 29th, 2006 § 0 comments § permalink

These past few days I've been sick. I hate being sick. I'm generally miserable to be around, mainly as I don't want to do anything.  Thank the heavens for DayQuil as it appears to provide some normalcy in life, until it runs out of the system, and I'm reminded that I'm sick.

I bought a shelving unit yesterday for my office, just to get some things off the floor, so I put that together last night (it was from IKEA), and got quite a few things out of the way (as in off the floor). I'm reminded that I have a ton of crap that still needs to be sorted through and either passed on or trashed.  It's interesting to discard material that I thought I could never live without, especially stuff from my time with SGA at Collin.

Today I was trying to catch up on my reading, and snoozing seemed so appropriate. Still I got about 2 chapters done for one of my classes, and I'll get the rest done tomorrow.  I'm actually enjoying the classes, though Tuesdays are still a long day for me.

We are meant to take the dogs to the park today, but I'm not sure if that is going to happen.  I'm feeling guilty.

Summer slowdown

Work is so-so.  I'm getting tired of the summer sessions, and not having stuff to do. I guess it's okay as I get time to catch up on SGA and other related items, but sometimes, I think why not just do that at home.  I was given the option of not working for two weeks later this month (between summer and fall), so I decided not to.

Productive Aspirations

I've decided to be productive today.  Off to print some pics to send to my mother (which I've been thinking about for ever), and visit the local Fry's to see if the cheap scanner is worth it.

Stormy Weather

It is bucketing down! Why is it that everytime, well … a lot of the time, when the city arranges something, it rains like this?  Maybe I should suggest that it's because they refuse to bring discussion about their non-discrimination policy.  A stretch? Perhaps.

Houston — *cough*

March 29th, 2004 § 0 comments § permalink

Well I've just got back from the State Convention of the Texas Junior College Student Government Association (*gasp*), which was in Houston. CCCCD was there with two reps and our advisor, and we came home as the president school for the region. This is great news for CCCCD, and will keep me focused on regional/state student advocacy issues.

I was really excited by the conference and the energy that the new state executive board will bring to the organization. I think the new president school will firmly put students in the face of Tx legislators.

The real suprise of the weekend was the other student representative who came down with me. I was guilty of doing what I criticize others of, and that is pre-judging someone. I was taken aback by a bumper sticker on this guy's car, and assumed all the wrong things. What an a** I was on that one. I think we hit it off really well, and I found myself being very open with him – which suprised even me. He is keen on taking a more active role with the SGA at the college, and I am over the moon on that. Finally, someone who seems to be passionate about things other than college activities for students.

As for Houston, what a dirty city. I've developed this annoying cough, and I'm sure it's allergy or pollution related. I can only hope that I get over this real soon. Sad to say that Dallas is very clean compared to what I was exposed to in Houston. I guess I'll have to give it another chance when I go visit some friends down that way over summer.

Where Am I?
