Playing for Change: One Love

Today, I finally caught up watching a video that Chris had sent me of Jimmy Buffett visiting Google recently (as part of their @Google speaker series). The video is worth watching if you want a brief glimpse inside the life of Jimmy. During the talk, Jimmy would reference something and would follow it by suggesting “we” Google it, and as a good little Googler, I did. While a couple of the references were not that exciting (to me), one reference he made was to a project that had taken the Bob Marley song, “One Love” and had performers record it around the globe. The project is called Playing for Change, and it is a “multimedia movement created to inspire, connect, and bring peace to the world through music.” The video is awesome, and definitely worth a listen.

Mamma Mia!

I went along with Chris and our friends, Bobby & Ian to see Mamma Mia! over the weekend. Not having seen the stage musical I was not really sure what to expect, nor had I seen (read) how the music had been interwoven into the story. I thought it was brilliant!

I think my two most favorite songs (based on lyrics) were “Our Last Summer” and “The Winner Takes It All” from the movie. The song Donna (Meryl Streep) sings about Sophie (“Slipping Through My Fingers“) is also up there amongst the favorites.

The cinematography of the film is spectacular, and makes me want to go visit that part of Greece (well any part really), and the singing talents of all the cast, especially Amanda Seyfried and Meryl Streep. Go see it!

Another Kind of Jesse song

This music video appeared on Towleroad a few weeks back, and now that I’m finally getting around to catch up on blogs, I found it. I really like the sound of it (it has a familiar beat), and the words are really great. The singer, Ivri Lider, is an Israeli gay boy who has a great voice, and who is easy on the eyes. Listen through to the end, and note the subtle difference in the words.

Don’t forget to check out Ivri’s official site, and listen to his version of “Nights in White Satin” – a nice version, a little energetic, and electronic!
