It was a chilly day in Frisco today (and most of North Texas), as snow and ice fell from above. I’m sitting here in my office watching the snow fall, and I’m always amazed at how beautiful this really is. Occasionally a car drives by very slowly, and I am reminded how rarely this happens where we live. Anyway, the picture does not do the snow justice, but it gives you an idea of what is out there in Frisco.

September Update

Thought I should do a quick update before life really starts to get busy!
For the last couple of weeks, I’ve started a new running/jogging regime in preparation for a 5K that I am doing on October 6, and last night, I hit the THREE MILES marker (which is just short of 5K). I have been gradually building my distance and after making the one mile marker a week or so ago, I thought it would take me an eternity to make it to three. Last week I ran two miles, and then last night, three (it helped that I was trying to recover from a weekend visit to Chris’s parents). So I was pretty stoked last night.
Also over the last few weeks, I have been interviewing with a nonprofit organization for a position, and today is my first day on the job (psst, I’m not blogging from work, I have a 12pm start today). I’ll post more after this week and let you in on how things are going. Needless to say, I am elated to be working for this organization.
This past weekend, Chris and I were in East Texas in part to visit his folks, but also to attend Chickfest in Pittsburg, TX. We were there as part of Kathy’s campaign to promote her candidacy for Congress. It was a great day, with loads of friendly faces stopping by. We felt really good that there was a need for change in the area, and Kathy is the person to make that happen.
More soon.
Back up and running

Well after being down for almost a week, my blog is back up. VistaPages – our hosting provider – has been doing some major upgrades over the last few weeks, and while most of my other websites have transitioned without incident, my blog did appear to be a casualty (albeit for a brief moment).
As this brief interruption was only a few days, I can’t blame it for the absence of posts over the last few months. I can blame many things, however not that
I’ve been giving my blog a bit of a rethink, and have been considering merging my blog with my website. This will keep my website fresh, and I only have to worry about one database backup instead of the two I have now. I’ll update when (or if) I decide to take that step.
Happy Birthday Damir!

Nature is amazing

Thanks to Andy (Towleroad), comes this link to some spectacular photos featured in the Daily Mail this week. This image (right) is an elephant fetus at twelve months (they gestate for twenty-four months).
The images are taken from a National Geographic program titled, “In the Womb: Animals” which is scheduled to be shown on December 10, 2006 (at 7PM, CST).

A few weeks back, I made a post about the word of the day – pettifogger. I had a couple of people ask what this actually referred to, so I figured it was time for a post on why pettifogger meant so much to me that I would post it. For some this is now old news, but for others, well this may just be something new and equally boring.
It’s no secret that there has been some tension between myself and some of the board members of CCGLA (Collin County Gay and Lesbian Alliance). For those of you who are recent viewers of this blog, Chris and I were founding members of CCGLA, and I was responsible for the establishment of the organization as an incorporated body (hence the Inc. bit after their name). Well like most things in life, people don’t always agree, and CCGLA board meetings were no different (diversity of opinion is something I actually value more than sameness). After one such disagreement, some members of the board moved to remove me as a board member (director) and then as a member of CCGLA. This happened in November 2005. I filed a lawsuit, I waited and I withdrew the suit in June this year (you can read more about that over here).
When did Hastert know?

It appears that Dennis Hastert’s office knew about Foley a long time before Speaker is saying he knew.
The aide, Kirk Fordham, said he had “more than one conversation with senior staff at the highest level of the House of Representatives asking them to intervene” at the time.
And it seems to be affecting candidate’s in tight races.
Rep. Ron Lewis of Kentucky, in a tougher-than-expected re-election race, abruptly canceled an invitation for Hastert to join him at a fundraiser next week.
“I’m taking the speaker’s words at face value,” Lewis told the AP. “I have no reason to doubt him. But until this is cleared up, I want to know the facts. If anyone in our leadership has done anything wrong, then I will be the first in line to condemn it.”
YouTube Goes Google

According to Reuters India, “Web search leader Google Inc. said on Monday it agreed to acquire top video entertainment site YouTube Inc. for $1.65 billion in stock, the highest price yet paid for a consumer-generated media site.”
The article also says that Google announced that “YouTube would remain an independent company.”
