What's "A" got to do with it?

Finally!

Well my final semester is over at Collin College and I have my grades – yay!  Two “A's” (Intro to Sociology and Concepts of Wellness and Fitness) and one “D” (Statistics).  I'm not overly proud of the D, but I earned it, and am grateful that it's not an F.  As for my UNT Class – Sociology of Marriage and Family – my first UNT “A” – which means I'm back to being a 4.0 (GPA) student! Woo hoo!

Houston — *cough*

Well I've just got back from the State Convention of the Texas Junior College Student Government Association (*gasp*), which was in Houston. CCCCD was there with two reps and our advisor, and we came home as the president school for the region. This is great news for CCCCD, and will keep me focused on regional/state student advocacy issues.

I was really excited by the conference and the energy that the new state executive board will bring to the organization. I think the new president school will firmly put students in the face of Tx legislators.

The real suprise of the weekend was the other student representative who came down with me. I was guilty of doing what I criticize others of, and that is pre-judging someone. I was taken aback by a bumper sticker on this guy's car, and assumed all the wrong things. What an a** I was on that one. I think we hit it off really well, and I found myself being very open with him – which suprised even me. He is keen on taking a more active role with the SGA at the college, and I am over the moon on that. Finally, someone who seems to be passionate about things other than college activities for students.

As for Houston, what a dirty city. I've developed this annoying cough, and I'm sure it's allergy or pollution related. I can only hope that I get over this real soon. Sad to say that Dallas is very clean compared to what I was exposed to in Houston. I guess I'll have to give it another chance when I go visit some friends down that way over summer.

College

Tonight I received a scholarship award from the CCCCD Foundation. It was very nice to receive, and I was so amazed at how many are given each year (600 at tonight's function). It helps a lot. Need to write a letter about this to some of the organizers and donors.

Rollercoasters

Well it's been an interesting week. It started off really rut-tish and low (quite depressed about everything) and it's ended this week with a good, happy feeling.

I was very worried about paying for college this coming semester, and thankfully, I was awarded a scholarship to cover half my tuition, which took a LOT of stress of me.

Been very busy with the SGA and getting things moving for that.

Volunteer Apprecation get together last night for the Frisco Freedom Fest. Kind of boring, but had some fun bits.

Jonas is graduating tomorrow, and we get to meet his parents – which should be fun.

Brian is enjoying himself (we assume) in provincetown – can't wait to hear all about that.

Now I'm tired. Slept really well last night. Wonder if the pressure of paying for classes being out of the way had anything to do with it?

Grades and Graduation Bang

Nearly all my grades in all at college. So far, I've one B, one A and one F (which I knew about). I'm going to retake English over summer.

Chris, Brian and I attended David's graduation on Thursday night – it was awesome! It was outside and lots of purple and green (the college's colors) were strewn about. After the degrees were conferred on the graduates, there was a fireworks display celebrating the great job all the students had done to achieve their goals.

Yoga Final and Gates speak

Today had my Yoga final. It was pretty good, and I'm going to miss the occassional class that I took. I've one more final to go and then it's over until summer two. I was meant to go listen to Dr. Robert Gates speak at the college today, but he was called to Austin to do something down there, so no presentation. It would have been very interesting, just bad timing to get the A&M President with the legislative session happening.

Rainy Days on Thursday

The rain started yesterday. Not sure if this groundhog thing actually is real or not, but he saw his shadow – which is meant to mean that we will have six more weeks of winter. Coincidence? Not sure. Enough people believe it, so maybe there is an element of truth in it.

Classes are going okay. I've still to do work on one class, and behind in another. I've been so busy with the HOA – trying to make as much headway as possible in the quickest amount of time. I'm thinking this is a positive thing, so I keep moving forward.

SGA is on a downward spiral. I'm not sure what more I can do to get people motivated. I'm not motivated, so maybe that would be a good starting point.

Hibachi – College – HOA

WOW! After what seemed like three hours, I'm full. We just helped celebrate a birthday with a friend of ours and the venue was a Japanese Hibachi bar. The “show” was awesome, and the food unbelievably good :-)

The Advocate has a very cute boy on the front of the February 4 edition, and he's a ballet dancer (Marcelo Gomes) … one can only wonder what that would be like *smirk*

Finally got my classes sorted out, and I'm enjoying Yoga. I managed to enrol in an English course (online) and I'm feeling really good about my workload for this semester. I've got a professor that I'm not thrilled with for one class, and he's already starting to show how pompous he can be – let's hope I survive.

I was appointed to the HOA Board this week, after one of the elected members decided to stand down. I'm still not overly happy with the treatment that I received at the annual meeting by some of the former board members, but thankfully a number of neighbors have been very supportive and now understand the issue with the previous board and myself – so I think it ended up being a good thing. Tomorrow we sort out the positions, and I'm hopeful that I will convince my fellow board members that I would serve as a great president – fingers crossed.

Where Am I?
