Is that you Noah?

Sunday, May 29th, 2005 | Author: James

What a day! I thought I might have to get out there and build an arc - but knowing my carpentry skills, the end result would be the same. Did it rain Saturday or what! Chris is working on a new program to “deal” with the constitutional amendment that will be going to the polls in Texas in November, and I helped him with figuring out the domain name and stuff like for that. It sounds like it will be an interesting few months ahead. Be on the look out for Texans United :-)
Chris and I ventured out in the rain to look at things, and ended up getting saturated as we attempted to get back to the car after our visit to Fry's. as soon as we got home, we shucked our wet clothes, and got comfy, and decided that we would stay that way for the rest of the evening :-) We ordered in some very tasty Chinese food (gotta love Golden Moon), and settled down to watch a movie or two.

We finally saw A Home at the End of the World, which was a remarkable movie. I didn't expect it to be as good as it was, but it exceeded expectations. The tagline for the movie is Family can be whatever you want it to be and that message is reinforced througout the movie. Colin Farrell was excellent in the film. He portrayed the character in such a way, that you can't help but get lost in his eyes, and feel what he is feeling (maybe the lack of alcohol was responsible for these feelings).

Following that, we saw Oceans Twelve. It was enjoyable, but not as good as the first (I think I've read that elsewhere, but it's worth repeating).

I'm heading out to the neighborhood BBQ. Yay!

Mapping Crime

Saturday, May 28th, 2005 | Author: James

A friend passed this link onto me tonight. It uses Google Maps - which I absolutely love - to show you where crimes have been committed (it's not real time). The tags are even color coded, and they have a good indexing system going on.

Amazon Image Abuse

This is kind of interesting and funny. Someone has gone to the trouble of deciphering Amazon's image rendering scripts.

TX Senators work hard for their money

Thursday, May 26th, 2005 | Author: James

I'm just getting to read the Senate Journal relating to the debate on HJR6. I applaud many of the Senate Democrats for attempting to make the resolution more fair, and wanted to highlight two Senators for attempting to strengthen the institution of marriage even more by offering the following amendments (which were either tabled or withdrawn):

Senator Hinojosa offered the following amendment to the resolution:
Floor Amendment No. 7
Amend HJR 6 (Senate committee printing) as follows:
(1) In SECTION 1 of the resolution, at the end of added Section 32, Article I, Texas Constitution (page 1, between lines 16 and 17), insert the following:
(c) This state may not recognize a marriage if either party to the marriage has previously been married three or more times in this state or in another jurisdiction.

Senator VanideiPutte offered the following amendment to the resolution:
Floor Amendment No. 8
Amend HJR 6 (Senate committee printing) as follows:
(1) In SECTION 1 of the resolution, at the end of added Section 32, Article I, Texas Constitution (page 1, between lines 16 and 17), insert the following:
(c) A union in this state, of one man and one woman, must include some sexual intercourse.

A noble effort, and if the debate wasn't over the hatred and discrimination towards gays, I'm sure they would have been adopted.
